Watch: Person stranded on cliff safe after hours-long rescue in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – First responders in California completed an extremely complex technical cliff rescue for a stranded person over the weekend.
Members of the San Francisco Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard leaped into action on Saturday after receiving a call regarding an individual stuck on a cliff along the coast of Dead Man’s Point.
A helicopter was initially used in an attempt at an aerial rescue. Still, dense fog forced officials to abort the mission for safety reasons, according to the fire department.

As time waned and the cliff on which the victim was stranded became increasingly unstable, the individual slid down the cliff face in a controlled descent and landed on the shoreline with minor injuries.
Footage shared by the San Francisco Fire Department shows rescue swimmers meeting the victim along the unstable, rocky and slick terrain with low visibility at the shore of Dead Man’s Point, accompanied by a rescue boat.
