Rain kicks off workweek for millions along East Coast as spring snow showers fall in New England

A fast-moving storm system swept across the Eastern U.S. on Sunday evening with heavy rain and severe storms in its path as lingering effects of rain and even snow showers kick off the workweek for millions on Monday.

The wide-reaching storm system is stretching across areas from the Mid-Atlantic coast to the lower Mississippi Valley by Monday morning.

On Sunday, large hail and damaging winds were the primary threat as storms tore through the Ohio Valley and pushed towards the East Coast.

SPRING STORMS, HEAVY RAIN TARGET THE EAST WHILE WINTER DELIVERS FINAL PUNCH TO NORTHEAST WITH SNOW

This system is being fueled by a massive, record-breaking heat wave in the West, increasing instability ahead of an early spring cold front.

In the Northeast, especially across eastern Massachusetts and the Boston area, conditions will be chilly and prime for snow showers in the morning hours.

Some weak instability could lead to narrow bands of heavier snow per the FOX Forecast Center.

While widespread accumulation is not expected due to marginal temperatures, some of these bursts could briefly coat surfaces and reduce visibility.

Farther south across the I-95 corridor from New York City and Philadelphia and into parts of the Mid Atlantic, skies will remain cloudy with periods of light rain or drizzle before conditions gradually improve later in the day.

Severe storms could occur across the Carolinas as the cold front begins to weaken, with large hail being the main threat from any severe storms that do develop.
