Millions at risk of severe storms targeting the Great Plains and Midwest with damaging winds and hail

Residents in the Northern U.S. are bracing for another round of severe weather starting this weekend and into next week, as the FOX Forecast Center tracks signals for a potential multiday threat.

The Storm Prediction Center is tracking the potential for a significant severe weather event from Sunday through Tuesday.

WHAT IS THE JET STREAM?

Starting late Saturday, following a lull in the weather, a deep, energetic dip in the jet stream will move through the western mountains and into the northern Great Plains and upper Midwest.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, a shifting pattern will send powerful, fast-moving winds into a moisture-rich environment, creating the perfect setup for significant severe weather that could last several days.

Locations such as Green Bay, Wisconsin, are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, according to the National Weather Service.

A Level 2 out of 5 severe storm threat has been added for Saturday across North Dakota and South Dakota.

Despite the recent upgrade in the severe threat, forecast models remain uncertain about the exact timing and strength of the developing storm system, making it difficult to pinpoint which area has the highest risk.
