Another round of widespread rain blasts the Northeast as Rachel's remnants trek across the nation

THE TAKEAWAY

Another round of rain is heading for the Northeast as moisture from the remnants of former Tropical Storm Rachel treks across the nation.

The FOX Forecast Center says a fast-moving low-pressure system will track from California to New England along a stalled front on Tuesday, triggering periods of heavy rain across the Northeast.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HURRICANE MAKING A DIRECT HIT AND LANDFALL?

The heaviest rainfall amounts are expected across northern New England, where some areas could see more than an inch of rain. Burlington, VT, is among the locations forecast to receive significant rainfall.

This comes as the remnants of Rachel unleash rare heavy tropical rain and flash flooding to parts of the West, including California, Utah and Nevada.

What makes this weather pattern particularly unusual is that the moisture originated from the tropical system in the Pacific that is now fueling rain as far east as New England.

Meanwhile, a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe storms has been issued for parts of upstate New York, including areas near Syracuse.

If daytime heating occurs, the atmosphere could become unstable enough to support stronger thunderstorms.

A strong wind shear could help storms organize, potentially producing damaging wind gusts and an isolated tornado or two.

HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER

However, persistent cloud cover associated with the rain should help limit daytime heating and inhibit storm development.
